Professionals and accreditation

Our personnel represent a truly unique mix of senior designated valuation specialists along with support personnel. Our personnel are degreed or completing requirements to secure a degree. In addition, those who do not have an American Society of Appraisers designation ASA in Machinery & Equipment are required to attend courses and seminars to keep up with current innovations and changes in the appraisal industry and secure their senior designation.

Biographies & Qualifications of Key Personnel

Charles D. Rice, ASA is the firm's Executive Vice President. Mr. Rice is an accredited Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers with a specialization in the valuation of machinery and equipment.

Charles served as the President of The Los Angeles Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers (2009-2010) and the Immediate Past President for the Chapter (2010-2011, and has been a member of the International Machinery Technical Specialties Committee (1997-2006). He has over twenty-five years experience in the valuation of machinery & equipment and real estate. Mr. Rice has performed valuations for arbitration proceedings, ad valorem tax, insurance placement, asset based collateral loans, leasing, mergers & acquisitions, bankruptcy and privatizations. Prior to returning to The Rice Group, Charles was based in Central Asia for six years as an independent appraiser operating The Rice Group Central Asia (2000-2006). During this time he has completed many complex appraisal assignments in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyz Republic, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, and the Russian Federation, as well as numerous countries in Central and Eastern Europe. Prior to forming The Rice Group Central Asia, Charles was Director of Valuations for Pricewaterhouse Coopers Kazakhstan (1995-2000).

M. Patrick Rice, ASA is a Senior Manager with the firm. Mr. Rice is a Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers with a specialization in the valuation of machinery and equipment. He has over twenty years' experience in the valuation of medical machinery and equipment. Patrick has completed the Multi-Discipinary advanced education in Healthcare Valuation Program administrated by The American Society of Appraisers Education Department. Mr. Rice has performed valuations for insurance placement, asset based collateral loans, leasing, mergers and acquisitions within the Medical Industry. Prior to joning The Rice Group, Inc. was a Senior Appraiser with the Valuation Counselors Group.

Daniel T. Rice

James G. Rice is a Vice president with the firm. Mr. Rice is currently enrolled in classes of the American Society of Appraisers and is working towards his designation in the specialization in the valuation of machinery and equipment, and was Co Chair Person for the Machinery Technical Specialties for the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers (2007-2008). He has over ten years experience in the valuation of machinery & equipment. Mr. Rice has performed valuations for arbitration proceedings, insurance placement, asset based collateral loans, leasing, mergers & acquisitions, bankruptcy, condemnation and eminent domain proceedings.

We leave the below biography in as a tribute to our Father? who's footsteps we have followed though in his profession as an appraiser, and will continue to do so in our every day practice in the appraisal profession.

Paul Rice, ASA Senior Consultant serving the Appraisal Industry at large. Paul received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wayne State University in 1964. Mr. Rice is a Senior Member of The American Society of Appraisers with a specialty in the valuation of Machinery and Equipment. He has been engaged in the appraisal profession since 1966. Paul?s responsibilities have been in the management of large complex assignments, preparation of reports, providing court testimony and the training of new appraisers. Mr. Rice has performed appraisals and consulting assignments in The United States, Austria, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, England, Egypt, France, Germany, Mexico, Nigeria, Scotland, Trinidad-Tobago and Venezuela.

Mr. Rice is a founding member, and at present is an Emeritus member of the International Machinery & Equipment committee within the American Society of Appraisers. Through out the years, Paul has developed numerous courses and was a Senior Instructor for courses such as MTS 201-204 and AC 201 introduction to appraising agricultural chattels. He has taught MTS classes throughout the world. He sat on the International Education Committee as well as the Education Material Translation Committee. He was a contributing author, Appraising Machinery & Equipment, American Society of Appraisers, McGraw Hill, Publishers.

Production Department
The Rice Group, Inc. has established a production department to ensure that there is continuity throughout the reports we issue. Our production managers are responsible for client liaison, planning, receiving information, data entry to a spreadsheet, and the overall review of the reports and exhibits. From the start of an engagement to the finish, the production managers give the assignment that personal care to ensure that a professional quality report leaves this office each and every time.

During the course of all engagements, it is necessary to perform a review of the work in progress at certain times during the valuation process. Our review team will meet with the engagement managers when they return from the field to discuss and review the field notes prior to the data entry to a spreadsheet. During the pricing phase of the engagement, the reviewer will meet with the staff to discuss such issues as to where and how they received up to date pricing, as well as the cost that are associated with freight, tax, installation and engineering costs.

Reports
The Rice Group, Inc. has been involved in the preparation of appraisal reports for various clients and industries since 1986. We have prepared reports using premises of value such as Replacement Cost New, Reproduction Cost New, Fair Market Value in Use, Orderly Liquidation Value, and Forced Liquidation Value. Our appraisal reports have been used for the reconciliation of fixed asset registers, mergers and acquisitions, allocation of purchase price; asset based collateral loans, Eminent Domain and Condemnation Proceedings, Financial Reporting requirements, and Insurance and Ad Valorem Tax purposes.

Our reports conform to meet or exceed the requirements of the Uniformed Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), the guidelines set forth by The International Valuation Standards Committee, as well as the ethical standards set forth by The American Society of Appraisers.
